Introduction to the Trail des Celtes
Celtic ballad at the summit
You will set off on this 50K trail from Barr, a wine-growing town in the foothills of the Vosges mountains. Leaving the vineyard trails behind, the course plunges into dense forest, leading first to the Château du Landsberg, then on to Birkenfels. From there the trail winds its way to Mont Sainte-Odile — an iconic spiritual and cultural landmark that watches over the Alsace plain. As you descend, you’ll pass close to the hushed remains of Niedermunster Abbey, before beginning the climb to the Heidenkopf, steeped in legends of Elves and bordering an ancient Celtic site. For those with energy to spare, the climb up the Mündel Tower rewards you with a breathtaking 360° view. After this last difficulty, the course will continue in the middle of the vineyards and will go towards the city of Rosheim, famous for its doors, vestiges of the fortifications of the city, before joining the arrival on the ramparts of Obernai.
